Recycle & Reuse

I believe that taking care of our planet and our environment is one of the most important responsibilities that we have as human beings. In our fast paced lives, it is sometimes a challenge to do all the things that we would like to do to make the world a better place. I have compiled a list of resources for people who want to recycle and reuse things that are a bit out of the normal range of the things we normally think about recycling. I hope that by blazing this trail I might make it easier for you to accomplish some of your recycling and reuse goals!
Athletic Shoe Recycling (All Brands) ~ Nike Reuse-a-shoe ~

Keep your old athletic shoes out of the landfills and convert them to basketball courts, tennis courts and running tracks. Find out where you can drop off your old shoes in your local area, or mail them directly to Nike.
Old cell phones and accessories ~

Old cell phones can dial 911 even if they don't have activated service. Many domestic violence agencies supply old cell phones to women for this purpose. Below are two links that provide drop off spots (in Washington state) for cell phones. If you do not live in Washington, you can either mail your phone/accessories to one of these locations, or you can find a domestic violence organization in your local area that participates in this type of program.
Battery Recycling - Misc~

Here are some sites committed to battery recycling. Many retailers have collection sites in their stores for battery types that they merchandise. Home Depot and Best Buy are two examples. You can check their websites or check your local store to find out what they will and will not take.

**If you live in another state, your state probably has a similar website. These types of sites are very helpful in answering a variety of questions that help us all be better stewards of our planet.
